Generally, it would help the manufacturer avoid liability, not the insurance company, unless specifically excluded in their policy or tires

are beyond the size compatible with the design specifications of the vehicle. The state laws would also come into play. This happened in CA, near the old Spahn Ranch of Manson fame. CA is not a no fault state so everyone is going to be sued, if more severe injuries are found. If not, it won't be worth it to litigate against the car companies.
