I spent a really drunken evening / night in a NYC hotel doing exactly that. Ordering drinks from the hotel bar and taking them back to the room

There's kind of a nice self limiting feature built into that behavior as when one gets to the point that when you can't make it the room door, well, then it's time to stop.
Already being in one's room is a super bonus as well
