The brilliant part of the move is that it's exactly what Florida lawmakers just did.

Florida made its own laws in an attempt to cause Disney discomfort.
Now, Disney has taken full advantage of the existing laws to do the same.
Florida can claim it won't hold up in court, just as Disney could win a court case over what lawmakers have done.
This is absolutely humiliating for DeSantis, who for some reason thought that an anti-Disney campaign could win him a presidential election. So, he'll have no recourse but to retaliate. But he's term-limited and running for POTUS. It seems like a terrible use of his resources, at least until he admits he cannot win the nomination.
He's gonna hold a grudge for a WHILE, though. To voters, what matters is that he picked a fight and got whupped. Publicly.
