There is a problem with the way I tell stories, I've realized.

There's no edge. There's no failure or pain or tragic character flaw. It's just Thing A happens, then Thing B happens, then Thing C happens.

I just want the characters to have a good time and not face any hardships.

Today I tried writing a story, and it turned into two lonely people having a nice polite chat. No misunderstandings. A very bland meet-cute, as well, to kick it off.

He was a million-year-old intelligent spaceship, she was an image processing expert working from home. Both galactically lonely.

I like the premise. I hate what my attempt to flesh it out has currently become.
