I haven't seen it yet but I assume they said the Jordan 1 was banned by the NBA and Jordan was fined for wearing them in a game. That was the story -- (edited)

people knew for a very long time. Over the years the truth has come out and we now know Nike exaggerated the whole thing. Also, we learned it wasn't the Jordan 1 that was banned but a temporary sneaker he was wearing while they completed his actual sneakers.

Related, a few years ago Nike released a Jordan 1 called the Banned Jordan 1 with a big black X on the back of a black and red sneaker. They love the story, even though it's not exactly true, and play into it every chance they get.
