Republicans have decided to be performative for a small (but not small enough) audience at the expense of gradually losing support.

It's a strategy, I guess.
They are taking the loudness of the support for volume, but elections are showing that long term they're losing more support than they're gaining. Hopefully it's a continuing or even better excelerating trend.
