It’s more likely that he put a very large nail in their coffin. They can’t “win” this conventionally so they’re going to need to be subservient

To the real big bad in China.
If the Chinese can determine there’s no nuclear threat coming, there’s zero reason they don’t take the eastern resources in Russia. There is no military ability of Russia to resist short of nukes.
