In response to "At least 1980s U2, yes -- nm" by ty97

I've loved every album. Even Zooropa. But I also feel the same about R.E.M., Nirvana, and Foo Fighters.

I recognize that Joshua Tree is an exceptional achievement, but to say that U2 is over-rated based on albums from the past 15-20 years seems odd to me. I don't think anyone would say that the U2 of recent history is as exceptional and genre-defining as they were in the 80s and 90s -- starting with U2 themselves. They've always said that Joshua Tree (and Unforgettable Fire, too) were almost divinely inspired works of art that hit the music scene and pop culture at the precise times they were needed.

But to me, U2 -- and all the other bands I mentioned -- fall more in the category of the bands that have been rated exactly as they deserved from album to album over time.
