They ran out whilst chasing the dragon; how could they possibly have enough on person, then, for reaching orbit?
(to be fair, there's probably an equation someone could come up with that says "they had to chase the dragon for X kilometers on planet Y in order to burn an equivalent amount of fuel as getting to space from planet M")
It's not actually the "rocketing up into space" that I have a problem with; it's how that calls into question everything about what seemed to be in-story limitations - with no explanation. I'd like to have had some kind of quick "Axe, here's your extra fuel pod" sort of thing, to indicate that it's not normal that he was able to do that.
I was not at all in the right mindset to enjoy this season. That's not entirely their fault, I'm sure my extremely painful Feb/March played into it. But it's a little bit their fault. I just can't point to a specific thing that would have fixed it overall.
