Musk is PT Barnum, inviting attention. Do his companies do get an outsized amount of attention.
It's why every accident with a Tesla gets some kind of news coverage, but if a Honda crashes, nothing.
It's fun to dunk on Musk and he deserves a lot of it. And his companies have to live in the shadows he casts.
Other than Twitter where he has no specialized knowledge to aid him, his companies are well run and are achieving things others haven't.
They have many of the same issues large manufacturers have: male dominated, HR issues with bad behavior, etc. But those problems get outsized coverage as if they are unique to Musk or his companies.
