JJ rewrote episode 4 for 7, had zero clue how to pick up after Rian and threw it all out for the final movie, which should have been 2 films.

The sequels have some great casting (daisy, boyega). And the Legacy actors have some nice parts, but to not have the three of them together in a scene was a HUGE miss. Huge.
I put that failure of the 7 and 9 squarely at the feet of JJ. Who I do really like as a director, I think he's got great ideas but when he scripts out stuff it's never ever finished.
