I’ve had some time to think about it and I feel that John Mulaney’s “Baby J” could have spent some more time in the oven. Spoilers?

The 5th grader in the audience may have been the most unexpected funniest sequence on the show. I wonder if it was real. I never heard or saw the kid.

The general rehab stuff was good but as I mentioned before, I’d heard it before. He’d clearly been workshopping it for a while. He hinted at a few of the people in his intervention but could have expanded on that. I think we all want to hear him drop some more names.

The Pete Davidson/Al Pacino bit falls flat. He enjoyed it a lot more than the audience did. Which is unfortunate because when you’re talking about drug abuse, you gotta talk Pete Davidson. Maybe take it in a different direction? I liked the bit about how how Pete has tattoos and John is “plain”.

The bit about him and friends John and John sounds like it’s looking for a punchline. Instead it’s an opportunity for him to shout “Baby J!”. Try harder.

The bit about buying the Rolex is just sad. It was hard to find humor in any of it. It’s got a good premise. “Crazy things John will do to get his own money.” Go from there.

And the GQ article was a lot of effort. It needs streamlining.
