i feel like liberals have shifted to the right.. most people didn't need to move their views to stay "centrist" and stay on the right.

democrats are a right-leaning group, the GOP is just much farther right. progressives are the closest we have to a leftist group and they are a very small minority in the democrat party.
the fact that democrats have no interest in universal healthcare, a common public service in most countries in the world, tells you where they are.
