Like it or not, manufacturers are going to build what they (think) they can sell. In the US, that means SUVs and trucks.
I have seen, though, stats that say sedans are starting to make a comeback.
It's also measuring on just one metric, the size/weight of the battery, when it should focus on the efficiency of the battery, either in miles/kWh or kWh/100 miles.
It isn't just about the materials used, but how efficiently they can be used. It also ignores that EVs get cleaner as the grid gets cleaner, even if their efficiency goes down, it's usually a small amount. ICE cars are bad and get worse over time.
And batteries can be recycled almost completely, putting rare earths back into the build cycle.
