I've been up against the stage for many shows from the Beastie Boys to Cypress Hill to Pantera. I don't remember getting to high five any of the guys.
Though at Pantera I didn't get to stay up front for long. The pit was insane and you'd go from the front to the back very quickly and just as quickly you can end up at the front again. It was a smallish venue with no seating, standing room only. The whole place was the pit during many of the songs.
