if your suit is in a reasonably bold pattern then you *might* be able to get away with it, but you'll probably just look mismatched.

if it's like a pinstripe or a herringbone or a solid it'll
look dumb. it'll be cut to be worn with the matching suit pants and fit slimmer to the body, so putting bulkier jeans under it will change the fit and shape. a good suit will also probably be double vented, which will clash with jeans - too formal + not formal enough. if you end up wearing the suit jacket more than the pants (or vice versa), you might also end up with a slightly mismatching suit when you do go to wear them together. just too much clashing style.
