I feel the need to take a grain of salt here. Obviously I have no details, but this feels almost 'too on the nose' and I expect might be overblown.

I’m inclined to agree that they shouldn’t be able to hire the police. Frankly, if there’s a threat, police protection should be free.

that is 100% inaccurate. Film sets, street festivals, etc etc all hire off-duty police for events. Not sure if it works for individuals, but police
