You'll have to compare cost of living, but iot could be just what you need. In 1997 I moved to London, which sounds expensive.

I moved to london because it was actually cheaper. I was in debt at the time. Was able to pay it back.
The important thing here is if it is too expensive to live where you live, it seems intimidating to move, because moving costs money. I had to borrow $400 to move to London, I paid it back in 6 weeks.
When employment SUCKS where you live, moving somewhere else is often magic. IL is a great place to start.
