I don't know what they have that is free, but there is stuff if you buy/bought Lightfall.

There is the Lightfall campaign in both normal and legendary difficulty. Both can be done solo. There is also the seasonal story. That is now timgated so that parts are now released weekly. It does make you do the new seasonal activity, which is 6-player matchmade.
The harder endgame content requires other people. Raids, high level Nightfall and the like. Though the new raid has been soloed, that isn't something most could do. Same is true of top level Nightfall. You can solo dungeons if you're really good, but I wouldn't recommend it.
If it's just a lack of other people, I thought xbox had a built in lfg. Best you can do on ps is the bungie app. Though I game lfg is scheduled for some time this year.
