Andie, from b2. most insurance companies have agreements with various docs/hospitals on the amount a procedure can be reimbursed at.

so a hospital might charge $1000 for this if you walked in with no insurance. The insurance company may only pay $500, and your copay is only say $50. so the hospital "looses" $450.
that is why the guy is trying to get my dad to pay the full cost, as opposed to what the insurance company will pay him.
