Or, I have 50K words of slapdash ideas written in a travelogue style that I want to convert to a narrative.

I get to pick and choose which ideas get pulled forward and improved, which ones die, and also come up with new ideas to help the story.
I've already added a minor character in the first chapter who wasn't there before. I'm going to rewrite his dialogue to be a jerk, and when he resurfaces later, he's going to have a run-in with a bigger jerk.
The bigger jerk is part of the subplot.
