Not sure surprise would be necessary, all they would need to do is draw focus away, to allow Russia to consolidate its position -- (edited)

to potentially then try and force a peace deal. Which then fails, leading to Putin's exit via window, and Prigozhin returns as hero to lead Mother Russia to glorious victory!
