for them anything news on Russian tv is BS for old people. most of their news and information comes from the internet, often Telegram, where I'm told there are some pretty reliable channels. their stance on Putin is about half "he saved Russia from the chaos of the '90s," and half "well he sucks, but what're you gonna do?"
