here, it used to be that if you made less than $2ok per year on an STR platform, you didn't get 1099'd. people I know would make $19k on airbnb then

switch to VRBO till they hit $38k. that was $38k in untaxed income per year.

now the boro mandates that STR companies issue 1099s for every dime earned in the boro (meaning the boro gets income tax and hotel tax on the rentals) and mandates that STLandlords actually live in the property six months per year. much less free money. much harder to fraud.

curioulsy, our STR policy is modeled after seattle's, which my sister helped write. when state college called her to ask for her help, she was like "tell my sister hi."
