Ankiel was probably the closest we'd seen to Ohtani in our lifetimes in that he survived losing his job as a pitcher.

But I'd argue the closest talent to Ohtani was Mike Hampton. Even in that extreme example, his career OPS was .602.

Give Ankiel all the credit in the World. Ohtani is another dimension. But also remember he's down one TJS. So wear & tear factor already in play -- nm
