The point of the streaming model is that everyone gets paid regardless of success.

It opens the door to smaller boutique projects that are niche and won't ever be a hit. Those projects pay the same, regardless of success. But if you DO have a hit, you come back and negotiate more for the second season or the sequel. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You want more money for a hit? Fine, then you get next-to-nothing for a failure, and Netflix stops producing boutique content that could have potentially broken through.
