It would be really nice if russia could exit the kleptocracy stage and transform itself into a functioning social democracy.

I am guessing that there are some russians who want that, but many more russians who have no desire to see it happen or no understanding of what it would be like. Russians who only understand things as they have been since that night in 1918.
In other words, bring back the Mensheviks, not the Bolsheviks.
