What I particularly enjoyed is that the signs of his being a people person have been there all along.
It's like he waited his whole life for someone else to create an upscale restaurant wherein he could provide acts of kindness. Once he was there for three days and understood, he was willing to give up his entire life to stay. But they sent him back to do it with his friends and family instead, which is even better.
The evolution or Saul/Paul conversion of whatever you want to call it was terrific in 7. Watching all his loved ones respond to it in 8 was every bit as good. And I adored the subtle nod that his change had a halo effect on Fak as well.
Season two is swimming in good ideas...and then it makes the devastation at the end that much more savage.
Kim and I have talked about this a lot with Richard Blais. He once said -- without irony -- that he felt guilty about not spending more time with his family. Then, without a touch of irony, he turned around and said something like, "But I feel like spending so much time with them hurts me as a chef."
I feel like that entire story arc of The Bear comes from Blais and the challenges of people born with his talent.
