IN 1993-97, the annual MLB batting average (w/ pitchers included) was .265-270 every year. It's *up* to .248 this year.

Pitching is far harder than it was 25 years ago because everyone can throw like Rob Dibble from the 6th inning on and the starters all throw like Roger Clemens did.
