I suspect it already is. The school is trying to get the community online over a new stadium that is being built with a very big donation.

The neighborhood it will built in is not happy with the current plans nor the proposed additional uses for concerts for the public at large. So there is already a PR problem surrounding the stadium the football team will use, throw in a problem with the football team, and add an investigation into alleged abuses involving the baseball team (their stadium is in the same block as the football stadium) and the school may be worried that the donors might change their minds. And most of the recent additions to the sports facilities went over budget at a time when the school was being hit by shortages due to Covid. So yeah, firing the coach probably was money based on their end as well.
