also think about energy consumption patterns. south-facing panels will provide the most overall power, but east/west will maximise morning/afternoon.

so if you're out of the house during the day even though you'll get less power overall east/west can be better for you than south - you'll consume more of the solar you generate and feed less in to the grid, and generally your feed-in price is a lot less than your consumption charge.
and get as many panels as your roof can handle, unless you have weird local rules like here where if you're above 5kW you don't get anything for feeding into the grid.
