Today I went to lunch with my mom, N and my grandmother. We sat outside because the noise level was too much for N and he didn’t have his

noise canceling headphones and was being a pill. We get outside and the sun comes out - very warm. We ask for an umbrella for the table. They put it in the hole in the middle of the table and it flies up a little on a breeze. We talk to the guy who brings it out and he insists it’ll be fine, it won’t fly out all the way. Ok.

Well…it did. As we’re waiting for the check it flies out suddenly and the pole hits my 82 year old grandmother in the side of the head. We saw one person who rushed outside to help with the umbrella and let us know he’d call for an ambulance if we needed it, but that was it for a while. We asked for an ice pack and eventually called for a rescue. The fire department showed up, asked her a few questions and were like Ok, call us later if you need us. They left quickly. The restaurant manager eventually came out (we have a feeling they called her and told her to come in), took down her and my mom’s names with no other info, and left.

She seems to be ok (as ok as a frail dramatic 82 year old can be) but now my mom and I are realizing the people who were all involved someone seemed very indifferent to the whole thing. The waitress came outside with our check and wished my grandmother well, thinking she was just hot. We told her what happened abcs she yelled WHAT? She had no idea. (After that she reversed the charge on the CC so they comped our meal.)

The whole thing was just so bizarre.
