Kim developed sudden blurry vision, headaches, and a serious chest cold around the same time two weeks ago. First, she went to the walk-in clinic, who prescribed something that didn't help much. So, Kim contacted our wonderful family doctor.
She wanted to see Kim immediately. Then, she quickly diagnosed Kim with either keratitis or uveitis. The cause of infection could have stemmed from MS, Lupus, or other really fucking scary stuff. Plus, she matched several symptoms of a stroke even though she showed literally zero physical hints of having had one.
We felt better after seeing our doctor, who didn't seem overly concerned but wanted to push up Kim's ophthalmologist appointment. On the way out, Kim did a series of blood tests, which is always a nightmare for her. She virtually passed out and had to rest in our doctor's office for 20 minutes before she was even safe to go home. All this happened on Monday.
On Tuesday, we got test results back that showed some high readings but mostly normal ones. Then, on Wednesday evening (very late...like after midnight), we got our Quest Diagnostics report that indicated Kim had tested positive for...something. There was no explanation of what. It was maddening and terrifying. We waited all day Thursday for our doctor to contact us, but she didn't.
Also, our doctor failed to move up the appointment with the ophthalmologist. This morning, he quickly diagnosed our odd little House episode as...an intense reaction from her chronically dry eyes to a change in contact lenses, something she'd done in January. Apparently, it had gradually eaten at her eyes and suddenly flared up to an extreme two weeks ago.
She's also apparently got cataracts, but he indicates that everyone over the age of 40 does to some degree. It's in her family history, too, as her father had to have surgery to remove a cataract.
So, we've spent the past five days freaking the fuck out about MS, *hoping* for Lupus, and our House episode ends with...her going to Target and getting new glasses.
The postnote was that after I'd told ST we'd dodged a bullet, we came home. Roughly 10 minutes after we'd eaten lunch, Kim got an email from our doctor through the patient portal. So, we freaked the fuck out again. But it was just her saying that all the lab results she'd seen were fine. Also, she apologized for not being able to move up the eye doctor appointment.
We've had the best possible outcome by several touchdowns, but we had the most stressful week imaginable to get there. Every time we thought we were in the clear, something new dropped. But Kim doesn't have MS or Lupus nor did she have a stroke. So, we're aces.
