I agree that he wanted the world to see a spectacle from the bomb and be scared off. But he went from a moral explanation about the Germans needing to be beat to the punch to swerving to Japan in a heartbeat. He later admits that Japan probably was going to surrender any way. I wanted to see some time given to the point A to point B journey, and the movie gives us none.
It's tough for me to see the damning of Oppenheimer given how the film sets him up a sympathetic, unappreciated hero at the end. Even conceding your slideshow point, I don't know how that makes up for the way the film is structured to make him appear as a hero in parts.
One tidbit I did like is when they were getting inside info on what the Russians were doing in the race to make the atomic bomb. When he dismissed them using graphite and water as them making a mistake, I enjoyed that. He couldn't even fathom using this technology for anything other than a bomb.
