penn state says that COL in central PA is very low and that its benefits bolster actual pay. it's true that 75% off tuition is nice but

if you don't have kids or if your kids want to go to a good school, that benefit is useless. healthcare here used to pretty cadillac but not anymore.

COL here used too be much lower for sure but in the last like ten years -- as everywhere -- housing has just skyrocketed so non-tenured university employees can ill afford to live in reasonable commuting distance.
