I can see a Gaimanish world where the attacker is a shaman and is trying to save the world by taking out the evil in human form

and then as proof of the evil: the &^$^% survives the attack with a freaking flagpole running from his chin to the back of his head
....and inaudible to everybody but the protagonist, the 'victim' just evilly laughs while they EMT's saw the flagpole and the attacker is taken away by the police
