he might have survived one (Palin being the better choice of the two for McCain given that Palin at least got him the base) but not both.

Palin was a killing blow though. It energized the GOP base but fired up the Democratic base as well. In the short stints of volunteering that I did she came up alot with many people. She was worth about $100 bucks and 8 hours from me alone.
