possilby mass layoffs by most major tech companies is a reason.

2 years of pandemic closure lots of previous attendees have decided that a week in italy or thailand is easier, nicer and cheaper.

large group camps were allowed to buy larger numbers of tickets and now have extras as members drop out.

crack down on plug n play camps where others charge extra to set up everything for you, goes against the 'spirit' of the event

and last year was notoriously HOT, acrid and wind blown
