I'm in wait-and-see mode because I believe there are three possibilities here.

1) He was drunk and got into it with somebody.
2) It's a family matter that escalated, which is the most worrisome outcome.
3) This story isn't as presented, but the police had to charge both parties.
I know how much you love these guys, so I'm hopeful it's the third one.
Realistically, this sounds grim, though.
