The deception is awful. Why he kept it secret is an issue and the why will play a huge part in how the spouse handles the news.

As for it being part of communal assets, I think it won't. It may be used to set spousal support levels ("the manner to which I've become accustomed"), but it sounds like that wouldn't be needed on either side if they divorced.
Location would play a big part in whether $300,000 a year is a floor for income puts him in upper middle, or lower upper class.
I'd also be interested to know if they comingle assets or if they have kept their incomes and finances separate. A joint filing would have made it clear to the spouse the source of that monthly $25k if they had cared to review their tax filings.
