it was nice as a room in someone's house - good way to meet someone in the area, talk to, have a kitchen, etc. that was at the beginning

and the platform was mostly folks that WANTED to host or people who wanted a little income while they traveled. it was chill, people were nice.
once there was the first wave of "entrepreneurs" renting apartments and airbnbing them. the quality went down, it just became a weird version of hotels and you'll never have the same quality or experience as a place staffed 24/7.
i still use it to find a house for a few weeks or a month at a time.. there's really not anther way (VRBO is the saaaame thing). but city travel is mostly hotels at this point.
or to find a place that allows dogs... that can make travel hard.
