The dogs really help with getting people to open up and be friendly. Picking up poop isn't a big deal but the no pets building is.

Pets are so great for people as they age, dogs especially as they get you out of the house and keep you engaged with them and other people with dogs. It really helps older adults to socialize which gets lost as we age.
I've read many times about how much pets help. Maybe you'll move in the future and you can get yourself a pet. :-)
