An argument could be made that he doesn't know things are bad.

I doubt he's had many of the issues other people have had. He is presumably a straight white male with quite a bit of money. Things are probably pretty good for him personally. One of his major concerns is probably the safety of his children. Taylor is famous. She probably has numerous people that qualify as stalkers, which is always dangerous. Her criticizing Trump while living in Tennessee is a bit dangerous. I would be concerned as well if I were her dad. I wouldn't have tried as hard to dissuade her, though. At least, I don't think I would.
