Car update!

Have I told you about my VW Tiguan? It's origins are best discussed another time, but I have it so that my daughters can drive to school and back. The alternative was for them to figure out some kind of car sharing arrangement with their mom and her minivan.

We've been feeding this thing coolant like there's no tomorrow. Two full jugs of coolant since July. And my local VW dealership apparently gave up the franchise this summer. Now granted I live in a rural area and I was fortunate to have a dealership that was maybe 5 minutes from my home, but now that I have to drive an hour to get to a service center... that sucks!

I had phoned VW to confirm the car was still under warranty (a whopping 7 years, 70,000 miles!) The car is only 4 years old but has 61,000 miles (previous owner liked to wander).

I had an appointment at 8 but only got here around 8:45. Because I had to drop off the kids at school first plus, you know, they're an hour away! But I shouldn't have stressed it. They were in an all-hands meeting until 9:30. They offered me a lift but I wasn't going to deal with coming and going when they're so far from my home or work. I told them I'd wait.

Interestingly, they use Lyft instead of an in-house shuttle to take you around.

Anyway, they discovered that I had a leak in a water pump and they had the part available, so they're fixing it now. It's been a couple of hours but I've got my laptop and I'm getting work done.

Not surprised they were able to identify the problem so quickly or that they had the part, as apparently there's been a recall and settlement related to the part.

So far, though, I'm pleased with how everything is playing out. They even have this system where they video their inspection and then text you the video. Hadn't even heard of that before.
