you usually don't have any kind of clue as to when they'll occur.
you only real sign is that there aren't enough spaces for what seem to be the correct answer.
In today's puzzle, there's a tiny clue - many of the clues have a strange "or" in them
e.g. 40 across - "Walks fancily or some rulers"
There's no word or phrase that means both of these things.
I had PR in the first two boxes. So, for the "rulers" part, I was thinking PRINCE.
but that didn't seem to satisfy "walks fancily". But PRANCE does.
So, for the middle square, you have to click on the Rebus link at the top of the puzzle.
then you have to enter two (or more) letters
So the correct answer for 40 across is this
There can be more than two letters in the rebus. it's crazy.
It's unusual that a rebus is in a Wednesday puzzle. Usually they're used Thu-Sat, sometimes Sunday.
With that in mind, take another look at the puzzle and see if you can figure out where the others are.
