His injury occurred early in the year. We tried to rehab him rather than getting the surgery done immediately.

The team figured it wouldn't need him until the playoffs anyway. So, they gave him every chance to get better, but that's not how these injuries typically work.
We tried it with Fried as well, and he's had better results.
