They are going to force us to become a type II civilization simply to survive the energy requirements of the AI models they're going to need.

Right now, they have a hammer, and to them, everything looks like a nail.
But what they don't want to realize is that their hammer is made of noodles. It's not intelligent, it is just an obsequence machine. And making it better at approximating general intelligence will require ever more power, for ever diminishing returns.
