Since it was brought up below, what's the best option for backup storage at home? Is an external HD good enough? Do I want or need a NAS? -- nm

NAS is kind of overkill vs a SSD (caveat, unless you are doing media server stuff) -- (edited)

I have a (solid state) hard drive at my office. I wouldn’t be comfortable with everything in my house, but I live in a high bushfire risk area.

I meant using an SSD in an external case and I just want somewhere to backup my laptop and phone. Nothing crazy but lots of pics, videos and such. -- (edited)

$100 a year is a bargain if you've ever had a HD fail on you without a backup. -- nm

Yep, same. I just don’t like having the drive in the same place as the computer/phone. -- nm
