I think Israel's issues have been more recent (mostly just related to the blind ambition of Netanyahu (though there are issues with the extreme

orthodox jews (really their issues mirror ours with Trump a lot). There were real opportunities earlier. I always thought what it needed was a coalition of Arab states to step in and help. Provide some security forces and guaranties and help build the territories. But they showed little interest and I think they felt the territories were somewhat ungovernable because of the failures of the leadership there. It's very sad.
