It's cheap, but only about as cheap as booking Air Canada without any bags, seat selection, or leg room.

Which is basically what I'd get if I was flying on a budget airline. If I want luggage, seat selection, or leg room, I'm gonna have to pay for it. So it's not really an apples-to-apples comparison.
